Two families in Elbasan live in extreme conditions after their homes were demolished, for which they accuse a nearby business.
The only shelter they could find was some greenhouses nearby, where they have slept for the second night together with their families. The families say they have no other options and their only revenue is social welfare.
“They gave us a 4-5 days deadline to leave but it will take the police to make us go. We have been living for 24 years in this area. I had a property title for 1000 square meters of land. I was expropriated for 700 square meters, and I built my house at the remaining 300 suqare meters. When I sent the documents at the legalization agency, I saw that our property belongd to the state. If the police moves us from where, we will be forced to sleep on the street. We have no other revenues”, declares one of the men.
“We will stay here, unless the government does something to help us. We had worked hard to build those houses, but now we are here because of that business”, another resident says.
“This is where I slept last night, and this is where I sleep tonight. I will not move from here, unless they find us a place to stay. I have no revenues and nowhere to go. I had built my house and they demolished it”, says woman.
These families live in extreme conditions and appeal the government for help.
