According to the Albanian Institute of Statistics, for the first five
months of the year Albania exported 111 billion ALL of goods in foreign
markets, 16.7% more than one year ago, or 120 million Euros more.
INSTAT says the leading growth in exports comes from construction materials and metals, which have contributed with 5.5% of the total. Two other positive groups are oils, minerals and the manufacturing industry.
Albanian exports had dropped for two consequent years, 2015-2016, due to the lower oil prices. But since this year, the tendency has changed and exports are growing.
From nine export groups in total, eight have increased, according to INSTAT. The only one that didn’t is the group of wood products and paper, which came as result of the deforestation moratorium.
Despite the growth, Albania remains a country with a low level of exports, less than 20% of the GDP, most of which includes raw materials, meaning that their added value is too small.
