The Ombudsman declared in an auditorium with experts of economy and
social science that the number of poor people has increased, and the
Albanian government must declare the minimal living standard as an
indicator that is related not only to the needs for survival, but also
as the base to define the social protection schemes.
“During this period I had the chance to travel throughout Albania and I have noted that por people have increased. Our question is what is the government doing to address to this problem? How many of the middle class are slipping towards poverty?”, Totozani declared.
Zef Preci declared that in 25 years of transition, the financial inability of the state to take care for the categories in need has been compensated with the informal sector and that in order to fight informality, the government needs harmonization with the categories in need through social policies.
Albania has never measured the minimum living standard, while the poverty level of INSTAT in 2012 has been declared as 14.3% of the population.
