The Geo-Scientific institution says that the recent tremors registered
recently in Albania are called micro-earthquakes, and their activity is
normal, since Albania has seismic activity. But can earthquakes be
predicted? Rrapo Ormeni, scientific researcher at this institution, has
an answer for this.
“Earthquakes can be predicted that they will happen, because seismic studies have predicted the most active areas in our country. But no prediction can be done about when they will hit, because earthquakes have complicated processed deep underground. The science of Seismology has a database for measuring data since the past year so that a proper time can be predicted”, said Rrapo Ormeni.
However, the expert says it is not absolute. “There is a scientific logic, which considers in average that our country may have earthquakes repeated every 50 years. Earthquakes with a magnitude higher than 7 can be repeated once in 100 or 130 years. But time cannot be calculated exactly. There could be earthquakes once in 100 years, but also twice in 150 years”, Ormeni declared.
But what are the cities mostly endangered?
“The Dibra-Elbasan segment, but also Vlora and Lushnja. This has been the most active in our country”, Ormeni said.
