Bule Naipi and Persefoni Kokedhima, two heroines that were hanged by Nazi German soldiers in July, 1944, were commemorated with an official ceremony in Gjirokastra.
Before being executed, the two 18-year-old girls were tortured for supporting the partisan war against the Nazi occupiers.
Local authorities, relatives and representatives of Veteran Associations gathered for the ceremony and placed wreaths on the statues.
The monument dedicated to the two heroines was created by sculptor Odise Paskali in 1974, and it has never been restored.
There are more than 300 monuments in Gjirokastra belonging to the socialist realism period have been damaged.
