The USA have declared that no political matter should be used as a
pretext for boycotting the Parliament, elections or the judiciary
reform.
The US Embassy in Tirana responded to an inquiry made by Top Channel, saying that the Trump administration doesn’t support the Democratic Party protest. Instead, the USA appeal for dialogue between political parties.
On his return from a visit in the USA, the Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, stated that he received support from the Trump administration for his cause, and also from senators and congressmen.
Top Channel asked the US Embassy in Tirana if Mr.Basha’s claims are true. This is the response given by one US Embassy spokesperson:
“No. The USA supports free and fair elections, decriminalization and fight against narcotics. These matters should not be used as pretexts to boycott the Parliament, the elections, or to delay the implementation of the judiciary reform. We encourage dialogue between the government and opposition to address these issues”.
