The arrests mandated by the special prosecutor for war crimes Jack Smith of the Hague tribunal may include Albanian citizens residing in Albania.
A diplomatic source aware of the developments told Top Channel’s Muhamed Veliu that the latest arrest of former high-ranking KLA leaders in Kosovo is just the start of a long wave of arrests to be made on the matter
“As long as during the war the Albanian state allowed the establishment of KLA prisons in its territory from where it can be proven that war crimes took place, then in all likelihood the special prosecutors will extend the arrests of persons living in Albania” said the diplomatic source.
In the indictment speech document known as Annex 3 published by the Special Court in The Hague, a comparison of KLA prisons in Kosovo is made with three more prisons in Kukës, Has and Cahan of Tropoja, in which prosecutors say were committed war crimes.
KLA prisons in Albanian territory were guarded by Albanian citizens who joined the KLA.
Top Channel’s Muhamed Veliu says that if prosecutors will want to arrest Albanian citizens, we will be in front of the scenario of acting as judges in the territory of Albania.
It is unofficial that the Hague prosecutors have in possession in the investigative file a formal decision of the Council of Ministers of the Albanian government in 1998 signed by all the ministers of that time, agreeing to arm the KLA and set bases in Northeast of Albania.
