European Commission report for Albania

The report of the European Commission for Albania is expected to be
approved this Wednesday. Same as requested by the member countries of
the December Council 2013, the Commission’s evaluation summarizes the
country’s achievements in the rule of law, crime, corruption and
traffick in the past six months, reiterating the recommendation that the
country fulfills the necessary conditions for the candidate status.

The document passes through the “written procedure”, which means that it is approved by the College of Commissioners, if no one of them opposes the content of the report until Wednesday.

After the Commissioners’ meeting is over, the document is distributed to the member countries and is made public to Tirana within the same day, by Commissioner Stefan Fule, on the highrank dialogue meeting which will review the key remaining priorities for the negotiations with the European Union.

Based on this evaluation from the Commission, after it is reviewed by the representatives of the member countries who cover Balkan, the European Ministers will decide in Luxembourg on June 23rd about Albania’s candidacy. This decision will pass for confirmation to the summit of leaders by the end of the month, on 26 and 27 June.
