The arrest of the Bank Governor, Ardian Fullani, is being followed
closely by the European Commission one month before publishing the next
progress report.
Contacted by Top Channel, Peter Stano, the Spokesperson of the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, explained that “The European Commission has taken in consideration the accusation against the Bank Governor and the Inspector General of the Bank of Albania, but cannot comment an undergoing trial”.
“We are following the situation closely and we have noticed that steps have been taken to stabilize and guarantee the continuity of the Bank’s operations”, Stano declared.
“The Bank’s Supervisory Council decided to discharge Fullani and appoint Elizabeta Gjoni as acting governor”.
Both President Nishani nd Prime Minister Rama have met with Mrs.Gjoni and expressed their support for higher professional standards and for the independence of this institution”, Fule’s office declared.
