Eduard Kukan accused the biggest opposition party in Albania for blocking the reform on justice, considered of key importance for the ambitions of the country’s EU integration path.

“I have constantly called for the opposition to return to Parliament so the justice reform can continue its’ path and the necessary preparations for the general elections can be done”, Kukan said.

The Slovak euro MP was very critical of the Democratic Party in his interview with the “European Business Review” saying that their  actions are a threat to the start of negotiation talks. His stance on the actions of the Democratic Party has added value because he is one of the most important members of the European Popular Party, where DP is part of.

“I fully support all efforts for the implementation of the justice reform. I have told politicians in Albania many times to go on forming the vetting bodies”, he added.

His remarks were supported also by the official reporter for Albania in the European Parliament, Knut Fleckenstein. “I cannot judge if the aim of the Democratic Party’s positioning for the moment is blocking the justice reform, but it sure is a consequence”, he said.-
