EU will have European Army HQ in Brussels

The Foreign and Defense Ministers of the EU decided to establish an EU
command center for missions around the world. Its Headquarters will be
in Brussels, led by 30 people.

Experts say that the enthusiasm spread in the EU for this cooperation is mostly due to the fact that defense policies help the countries get closer. The current refugee crisis is also an incentive.

The idea will turn concrete within a few weeks, as an effort of the Union to increase its economy and respond to Russian threats.

This union of armies will also help engage peace-keeping troops to stabilize situations in problematic countries at EU borders.

The new structure will be responsible for the training missions in Mali, the Central African Republic and Somalia. The military leader will be allowed to stay on terrain and return to Brussels for reporting.

The cooperation includes purchase of tanks and warships, allowing the EU to make better military scientific researches and save enough money to compensate for the budget cuts applied in the past years.

Many experts consider this a very modest start, since it doesn’t eliminate the five military Headquarters of individual EU states.

The Mediterranean “Sofia” mission against human traffic will still be led by Rome. Brussels will only coordinate missions that require concrete engagement of weapons.
