Two days after the EU Foreign Ministers gathered in Luxemburg to decide on the accession negotiations of Albania and Northern Macedonia, today, the leaders of EU members countries will meet to give the final say.

Despite hesitations from Netherlands and France, all EU countries cleared the path for Albania’s and Macedonia’s EU accession negotiations, which will start in 2019.

The European Commission has been asked to start preparing the negotiations, but not unless both countries fulfill some criteria, such as the judiciary reform, security services, public administration and fight against corruption.

EU leaders will express their final stances during the next two days, although migration talks are expected to take most of their attention.

The German Chancellor is even facing an ultimatum from her own Interior Minister. She has to find a solution about the refugee crisis until Sunday, or the coalition that keeps her in power will be at risk.

Italy and Greece have requested for the refugee burden to be shared among other EU members, but Vishegrad countries refuse to be part of this difficult contribution.

Many ideas have been given for opening refugee centers outside the EU. Some have even mentioned Albania as one of the hosts, but nothing is expected to be easy on this front.
