EU: “Political dialogue in Parliament for vetting law and elections”

The Maltese EU Presidency appealed Albanian political forces to sit in
Parliament and find consensus on Vetting Law and Electoral Code amends,
so that EU accession negotiations can start in September.

If not, says Maltese Ambassador Pulis, Albania will have to wait until May 2018 to see what will happen with the communication issued by the European Commission.

“We are not concerned about the people protesting on the streets. It shows that there is democracy. But there are protests and protests. I would prefer to have both parties closed in a room and keep them there until they find a solution for the reform. This problem was created just three months before the elections. I don’t understand why the parties don’t sit in Parliament to make the vetting law concrete, together with the electoral reform”, said Godwin C. Pulis, Ambassador of Malta.

According to the second person in charge of the EU Delegation in Tirana, Jan Rudolf, the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini, will give a message this Friday to the Albanian Parliament, for political parties to sit and dialogue for reforms.

“Only after there is concrete progress with the judiciary reform and the vetting law, there will be a date for starting the accession negotiations with Albania. This message will be conveyed by Mrs.Mogherini herself, this Friday in Tirana”, said Jan Rudolf, Head of the political department at the EU Delegation in Albania.
