MP Gunther Krichbaum from the German ruling party said that he was not
speaking as Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for EU related
matters. He said that even in the official letter for the priorities, he
had used the header of his political party, Angela Merkel.
“The necessary conditions are not met, this is why the CDU-CSU Parliamentary Group will recommend the federal government to not open the negotiations until the priorities we formulated on the documents are met”, the German MP stated.
When asked if he consulted this with the leader of his party and with the German government, Krichbaum underlined he had consulted it with the chairman of his Parliamentary Group and that the government cannot decide without approval from the German Parliament.
According to him, Albania will have to wait until Spring 2018, when the next report of the European Commission will be published.
