EU, Mogherini: “Ivanov must reflect and mandate Zaev for next government”

The EU High Representative, Federica Mogherini, gave a direct message to the Macedonian President, Gjorgje Ivanov.
Mogherini said he made a mistake by not authorizing Zaev to form the next government with Albanian parties.
Mogherini met political party leaders in Skopje, after meeting with President Ivanov.
“We asked President Ivanov to not violate the basic democracy principles, but reflect and change the decision which refuses to authorize Zoran Zaev, leader of the second winning party in these elections, to for the next government”, she said.
Mogherini met with Zaev, who said he had been guaranteed by the European Union for the democratic future of Macedonia.
The political crisis in Macedonia escalated this Wednesday, when President Ivanov said that the obstacle was the platform of Albanian parties, who demand Albanian to be second official language in Macedonia.
Ivanov said that the Albanian platform was a danger for the independence and sovereignty of Macedonia.
