EU looking for transparent solution of EULEX case

The first meeting of the newest Chief of European Diplomacy, Federica
Mogherini, was about the corruption scandal in the Union’s biggest
mission for crises, EULEX.

While the Spokesperson of Ashton declared last week that the mission is operating within the mandate and is using the instruments that are available to them without crossing any limit, the same spokesperson confirmed today the EU concern to discuss behind closed doors with the representatives of the EU diplomatic service, and also promised maximal transparency for this sensitive issue.

“There is a meeting at the European Parliament about this matter, and the EU Foreign Service will be led by Kenneth Dean, Chief of the Command for Civilian Operations and Behavior Planning, and also by the Director for Western Balkan, Fernando Gentilini. As you know, this is a very sensitive issue but I can report the stance of the new Highest Representative of the EU. Her first meeting was on this matter and she made it clear that she wants to treat it with maximal transparency, since she believes that it is on our own interest to clarify everything about this case. For the moment she is looking all possible instruments for resolving this case with full transparency, in order to preserve the credibility of our mission”, Kocijancic declared.

“Fernando Gentilini is responsible for this chaos in Kosovo”, says Maria Bamieh, the British Prosecutor for “EU Observer” who has now been suspended from EULEX. She has publicly accused for corruption her two colleagues, the Czech Prosecutor Novotnas and the Italian Judge, Florit.

Besides Bamieh, the rapporteur for Kosovo, Ulrike Lunacek and the Head of the EU Delegation for Serbia, Eduard Kukan have asked that EULEX should be investigated by an external and independent authority, which could bring a reconfiguration of this mission and of its mandate in Kosovo.
