The 28 EU Interior Ministers approved in Brussels the action plan for getting Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo closer to the EU.
Each country has received a list of reforms that need to be completed beforehand, including 14 points in the area of security and integration.
The purpose is to better fight the illegal immigration, organized crime and drug traffic, getting closer to the EU standards.
The reforms formulated in this plan continue until 2020. During this time, the EU will review what progress has been done with the internal security, for each of the countries.
The new report will show what countries need to improve and in what areas. This is done with the consideration that 2025 will be the year when these countries join the EU.
This date was reiterated in Sophie by the European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker, after his Balkan tour.
He underlined that this date is not definite since every country will join the EU only based on merits.
