The rapporteur for Albania at the European Parliament, Knut
Fleckesntein, held a meeting with the Parliamentary commissions
regarding the challenges of our country in the EU accession path.
Fleckenstein said the judiciary reform is very important in the fight against corruption.
“The rule of law and functionality of judiciary institutions will help with the accession”, Fleckenstein declared.
The chairwoman of the National Council of Integration, Majlinda Bregu, said that Southeastern countries are going faster towards the EU. But she added that Balkan still has problems with democracy and law functionality.
“No one has suspicions that enlargement is the right path. The integration process has many challenges that should not be left suspended”, Bregu declared.
Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta underlined that “this is a historic moment for the region, an intensive phase of the contractual relations with the EU. The purpose is for a full accession to the EU to increase the living standards of our citizens”.
“This process is a new impulse for the transformation of our region. Corruption and organized crime stand as a barrier for development”, Meta declared.
