Present today at the National EU Integration Council, the President of the Republic, Ilir Meta stated that “we are all warned” by the new methodology of the European Union, emphasizing that where progress is not real there will be penalties or reversal of the integration process and of the achievements so far.
“This would be fatal for us, especially remembering that at the beginning of this process we were in the same lane with Croatia, which today is an EU member state, and long before Montenegro. Therefore, I believe that we are still in time to reflect, starting with the renunciation of the policy of decision-making before the accomplished fact, which undermines dialogue, cooperation and the trust between the parties. Dialogue means not only talking but also listening. Cooperation does not only mean receiving but also offering “, declared Meta.
The president further stated: “The European Commission and the member states deserve our deepest gratitude because, although in an unprecedented state created due to pandemic, they maintained their commitment and support to Albania, as promised.
“I would like to note that the agreement reached at the Political Council on Electoral Reform was an important step forward. I appreciate the constructive contribution that Commissioner Varhelyi, the German Bundestag, other European partners, as well as the United States and the United Kingdom, have played in this process”.
