During the presentation of PAMECA 4, the European Union Ambassador to
Tirana, Ettore Sequi, asked for better and tangible results in the fight
against organized crime.
Different from other diplomatic agencies, whih had reserves against the new Antimafia law, Sequi declared that the new law could bring results against crime.
“In PAMECA 1, 2 and 3 we have invested 17 million EUR. Now with PAMECA 4 we added four other million EUR. Hence, we expect more tangible results in the fight against crime and corruption. PAMECA 4 will expand in five action areas: structuring and helping the logistics at the police, investigating crime and corruption, human rights and policing in the community, illegal patrols and integrated border management. I think that the Antimafia law could bring better results in the fight against crime and corruption”, declared the European Union ambassador.
The Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, declared that the new government has given clear signs that they are committed in the fight against crime, not only as an obligation to the European Union, but as an obligation to the Albanian citizens.
“We have been able to show clear signs of our will to do everything possible in the fight against organized crime and corruption, by following the conviction that before fulfilling the European Union criteria, this is a fulfillment of the aspirations of the Albanian people”, Tahiri declared.
The Interior Minister noted that one of the problems with the state police is the transferring of officers. In the past three years, 90% of them have been transferred.
“8066 police officers have been transferred. This damages the stability and standards of their duty”, Tahiri declared.
The Pameca mission will end in October 2016.
