During a meeting with Prime Minister Berisha, the Cypriot Foreign
Minister, Erato Kozakou Marcoullis, paid a special attention to the
political dialogue between the majority and the opposition.
Cyprus has the Presidency of the European Union and the Cypriot Foreign Minister told PM Berisha that in the spirit of dialogue and cooperation, Brussels expects substantial steps to be taken in the fulfillment of the 12 recommendations.
According to Prime Minister Berisha, this spirit is what made possible the electoral reform, the passing of the qualified majority laws and the approving of the consensual draft for limiting the immunity of MPs, judges and other high rank officials.
The Prime Minister also added that for reaching a common draft, the majority ceded all they could and accepted the requests of the Socialist Party.
Berisha declared that: “He remained with the hope that the opposition would accept the voting of the immunity limitation law on August sixth and will continue to cooperate for other qualified majority laws”.
The Cypriot Foreign Minister assured Prime Minister Berisha that she will encourage the opposition to continue the cooperation for the political dialogue spirit, in order to reach the other expectancies for the 12 recommendations of the European Commission.
The head of the Cypriot diplomacy started her visit in Tirana with her Albanian homologue, Edmond Panariti. In a joint conference Marcoullis declared that the EU enlargement with the Western Balkan countries is one of the priorities of this presidency.
