Same as the US Ambassador, the EU delegation in Albania appeals
qualified law specialists to apply for the new vetting commissions,
which will vet judges and prosecutors as part of the new judiciary
reform.

This is the biggest judiciary reform held in Albania since the fall of communism. The justice system in Albania has received more critics than any other sector during the past 26 years, especially from citizens.

The reforms aims to make a radical change and pass every judge and prosecutor under extreme vetting. It has been seen as a condition for EU accession, and its implementation has been strongly urged and funded by the US and EU partners.

The announcement on the Ombudsman’s website gives all application details for candidates, even for Albanian citizens living outside our country and who fulfill the criteria.

Among the various requests, the candidates should not be above 65, should not have collaborated with the Secret Service during the communist area, should have not been part of the decriminalization law, etc.
