EU discusses on visa liberalization

The Council of EU Interior Ministers discussed the recent proposition of
the European Commission for amending the visa regulation, in order to
punish abusing countries.

The Commissioner Cecilia Malstrom declared that they only discussed a possible suspension of the process, not for returning the visa regime in specific countries. According to her, no one has asked such a thing as suspension of the free visa travel regime.

“There are many asylum seekers, especially from Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Serbia. Only a few of these requests were admitted. This is a problem that we raised with them in different levels”, said Cecilia Malmstrom, EU Interior Commissioner.

The Commission will release in July the first report about the way Balkan countries have respected visa obligations.

Up to now, Albanian citizens have not abused. The number of asylum seeking Albanians was same as before December 15th, when the visa liberalization process was enacted.
