The Council of Europe, the European Parliament and the European
Commission approved a new mechanism for suspending or removing the visa
free travel.
Now there are more reasons that could bring visas back with countries like Albania, including lower cooperation for repatriation and increased repatriation refusals.
There is also a shorter reference time, especially when references are compared to one year ago, or before the visa liberalization. It will change from six, to two months. This make it easier for the member countries to give notifications about changed circumstances that might cause a suspension, allowing the commission to activate the mechanism on their own initiative.
The suspension may be activated through a notification given by the member country or by the Commission. A monitoring mechanism was also presented, which aims to guarantee that third countries that have benefited from the visa liberalization, will keep fulfilling the criteria.
