The European Union Council of Foreign Ministers discussed initially
about the developments in Ukraine, and then decided for the second phase
of sanctions against Russia.
The European diplomats reviewed the process in the Middle East and discussed about the neighboring policy.
The 28 member countries approved the first instruction on the human right and freedom of speech in the European Union, before the sixth Stabilization Association Council with Albania. The meeting starts at 17:00, officially, and based on the agenda it will last two hours.
This will be the first meeting with the new government after the June 23rd elections and the European side will be represented by the Commissioner for Enlargement, Stefan Fule, and the Deputy Prime Minister Venizelos, Foreign Minister of Greece, who holds the Union’s presidency until July 1st.
The Albanian delegation is led by Ministers Bushati and Gjosha, and is composed of 11 officials, with Majlinda Bregu from the opposition, as Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Commission for Integration.
The frist meeting will be held with a full representation of both parties, in which the 28 member countries will present the position of Tirana, in order to continue with the limited format, in which the highest level of both delegations will discuss informally about sensitive topics of mutual interests.
According to the confidential document of the European Union, published by Top Channel, the focus will be on political dialogue, independence of institutions, public administration, rule of law, judiciary, fight against corruption, organized crime and traffics.
On the verge of the decision for the candidate status, there are positive tones from the European Union about the engagement taken by the government and for the legal amends approved by the Parliament so far, but they reiterate the need to implement them on terrain.
The Albanian Ministers hold bilateral meetings with their European counterparts based on the Stabilization Association Council. This is an effort to convince the member countries that are still hesitant for the decision of this June. The Albanian delegation will report in a special press conference this Tuesday for the implementation of the reforms and the rule of law in the country, and will be part of the plenary session of the Council for the Adriatic-Ionnian initiative.
