The EU Ambassador to Tirana, Romana Vlahutin, sees the votes in favor of the Democratic Party as a clear mandate for reforms.
In an interview for Deutsche Welle, the Ambassador quoted EU leaders Federica Mogherini and Johannes Hahn, who said that the elections were calm and regular. This made Albanians benefit a wide political offers, which is very important for Albania’s integration.
“Our work as EU delegation is to focus on the reforms that need to be implemented, so that Albania goes towards full accession. We expect the new government to take full responsibility for the reforms, since this vote was in some way a support of the reform program. I think that most of analysts in Albania see it as such, and this is an additional responsibility for those elected by the people of Albania”, said Romana Vlahutin, EU Ambassador to Tirana.
Seeing the judiciary reform as a priority for the moment, the Ambassador reminds that it ahs been a central part of the EU efforts during these past two years and a half, for the simple reason that a society and an economy cannot progress without a proper rule of law.
“The Vetting commissioners were appointed. The international observers as well. The building of the Vetting institutions is being completed. The Vetting of Judges and Prosecutors is going to start very soon. Results will prove the trust on the reform efforts”, Vlahutin said, underlining that a stronger political mandate means a higher responsibility.
