The new Reci prison in Shkoder, which is being inaugurated, resolved the overpopulation issue. Its inauguration was done this Thursday by the Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjonaj, and the EU Ambassador to Tirana, Romana Vlahutin.
This institution has a capacity of 780 inmates and detainees, and the construction was a cooperation of the Albanian government and the EU.
“The penitentiary system is a significant part of the judicial reform. The purpose is to create a safe and professional system, far from political influences, and that respects human rights”, the Minister said.
