Croatia has received the presidency of the European Union and their focus for the next six months will be opening the EU accession negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia.
But the Netherlands is still the one country that keeps requesting more from the two Balkan countries.
In an interview for Jutarnji, Stef Blok, the Foreign Minister of the Netherlands, declared that his country supports the accession of Tirana and Skopje, but they need to see more results are with the rule of law.
Blok declared that from Albania they want a more stable commitment in the fight against corruption and organized crime.
“The vetting of judges and prosecutors is especially essential. There have been important legal reforms and new justice institutions have been created. However, before the accession negotiations, Albania must show a more stable commitment in order to fight organized crime and corruption”, Blok declared.
In May 2020, Croatia will organize the Western Balkan Summit, where they will decide the future progress of Albania and Northern Macedonia in the EU accession process.
