1800 Albanians filed for asylum in all European Union countries during
2013, according to the European Agency data for managing the cooperation
of action in the EU borders.
The recent Frontex report says that 719 requested it in Sweden, 610 in Germany, 311 in Belgium, 77 in Switzerland and 52 in Luxemburg.
The recent report of Warsaw dates October 16th 2013, and treats the period from September 2nd to September 29th, and compares the data for the first nine months of the previous years. The document was presented to the European Union Council in December by the Commission.
The highest number of asylum seekers comes from Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia, Albania and Montenegro. The most targeted destinations are Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
There are 16.940 asylum seekers from Balkan in the first nine months of 2013, almost the same as one year before. Germany has dealt with 70% of the requests. Compared to 2012, there’s an increase of 80% of the cases for Germany and Sweden, while Denmark, Great Britain and Netherlands also had an increase, according to the report of Top Channel.
“Citizens from five Western Balkan countries where the visa regime has been lifted had more demands for asylum compared to the previous period that has been reported. The increase was bigger for the citizens of Bosnia, with 148%, while the Albanian citizens were the only ones who preferred Sweden with 45%. Requests in Germany increased with 85% in total. Germany returns 1 for every 10 asylum requests, while Switzerland returns 3 of every 10. Serbia and the FYROM followed the same tendency, showing that asylum seeking from these countries comes in similar levels”, the report says.
Sweden had 402 requests for asylum in September, which is 51% more than during August, while 88% of the Serbs preferred Germany. According to the data, applications from Albania reduced with 13% in total.
While this drop is 33% for Belgium, 82% for Luxembourg and 34% for Swden, Germany has a growth of 373% of requests from Albanians and Switzerland 43%.
