The European Parliament passed today the resolution for Albania, drafted
by rapporteur Knut Fleckenstein, with 436 votes in favor and 250
against.
The resolution has 45 points, the most important of which are concrete implementation of the Judiciary Reform, and holding free elections on June 18th.
A quick implementation of the Vetting Law remains the key word of the resolution, which will vet current Albanian prosecutors and judges.
The European institutions demand a full implementation of the Decriminalization law, which will leave incriminated political candidates out of public posts. They also requested transparency and audit for the funding of political parties.
It is also underlined that the dialogue between the majority and opposition is essential. As for the next parliamentary elections, the Albanian authorities are encouraged to take measures for emigrated Albanians to vote.
The European institutions note that the police and prosecution have failed to identify the criminal groups hiding behind cannabis plantations.
