The European Parliament approved the resolution of Albania, which says
that the country needs more efforts in order to realize the reforms.
The document recognizes the progress with the key political and administrative reforms the country so much needs, but states that the process has not reached the phase needed for starting the EU accession negotiations.
“Albania is on the right track towards EU accession. The country is preparing an ambitious judiciary reform which will answer to key concerns regarding its citizens, and the fight against everyday corruption. The citizens of Albania want to be ready for the EU. Their political leaders need to use this moment and continue implementing the reforms”, declared the European MP, Knut Fleckenstein.
The resolution for Albania says that before starting negotiations, Albania must intensify its reforms in higher priority areas, such as the rule of law, justice reform, fight against corruption and organized crime, public administration and human rights.
The European Parliament Members are still concerned about the high level of corruption in education, health, judiciary and other sectors.
The auto-censorship between journalists on the other hand, as the document states, is also a concern since many times they have been banned from specific events because of their job.
