After the Central Election Commission (CEC) decided to verify the
signatures of the Albanian citizens in the Police Scientific Labs, the
former gathered in front of the CEC gate and explained that the
referendum request was filed on March 13th, and the deadline, according
to the law, is June 11th.
They say that everyone can verify that the initiatory group has filed the referendum request on March 13th, and CEC is obliged by law to give an answer within 90 days, which has expired. The environmentalists that gathered 62.000 signatures say that the CEC claims that they have falsified 43.000 signatures is simply ridiculous.
“A guaranty of the citizens’ will for the referendum is the photocopies of the identity cards, a condition of the CEC and the citizens gave them on free will. With their ridiculous accusations that 70% of these signatures are falsified, CEC accuses us that we have robbed the IDs of 43.000 citizens of this country. This is ridiculous and it damages the credibility of this institution. CEC must understand that their constitutional function is to guarantee the people’s will, and not block it through crime labs and violence institutions”, the environmentalists declared.
The environmentalists who were against the waste import asked the CEC to respect the law and act as an electoral institution, rather than taking the role of the Prosecution.
