Two high-rank leaders at the Durres Environment Inspectorate, and one
financial expert, were arrested by the police over passive corruption
and illegal influence charges.

The Prosecution says that the Director of the Environment Inspectorate in Durres, G.Balla and his dependant, E.Bejko, have used the intermediation of D.Nikolla to demand a “monthly salary” from a foreign investor in exchange of a permit for his private operation.

The Prosecution says that on 30 April 2014, a citizen visited the company premises, presenting himself as the Chief of the Environment Inspectorate in Durres. After some debates, he sent some inspectors for the permit.

Claiming that the private operator would be fined 5 to 10 million ALL, they asked 200.000 ALL and promised to remove the fine in exchange.

The he met with Chief Inspector Balla, who asked 100.000 ALL each month so that the company could work without any problems from the Durres Environment Inspectorate.
