Energy, losses are still alarming

The Albanian government aims reducing losses of electric energy, which,
according to the Deputy Prime Minister, Niko Peleshi, are still very
high.

“The CEZ figures are shocking. We have losses mounting up to 43.2% of the energy, which equals 200 million USD, 70% of the Drin cascade power. In the meantime, we have just passed a financial gap that had been created by the previous government”, Peleshi declared.

By presenting the results of the Electric Power Task Force for this month, which he leads, the Deputy Prime Minister valued the work for increasing encashment. He warned zero tollerance for every individual or business that don’t pay energy obligations.

“The results for January are 10 million USD more, as compared with January 2013. This shows how huge is the reserve that CEZ Distribution has to collect from debtors and energy robbers”, Peleshi declared.

The problematic situation in the energy distribution system was the center of discussion even at the Commission of Productive Activities, where the candidacies for the head of the Energy Regulation Entity were reviewed today.

“How can we reform this energy sector and save it from the collapse in which it is now. The most important elements are the performance of the distribution company. Certainly, we need a reform so that we can achieve the maximal positive indicators, because the situation is relatively bad”, declared Petrit Ahmeti, Head of the Energy Regulation Entity.

According to the current ERE leader, the administrative conflict between the Albanian government and CEZ will be resolved within the first six months of this year.

Another concern raised by the Parliament Members was the Vlore Thermo Central, which has never functioned and that according to the ERE candidate, Gjin Rosaj, needs a 12 million EUR investment to renew the technology that would make it effective.
