After nine months, the Energy Distribution Operator (OSHEE) is back at importing electricity.

9.3 million EUR was offered for buying 112,000 MW from October 7th to 20th.

The average price for peak hours will be 92 EUR per MW/h, and 77.4 MW/h for the rest of the day.

The energy will be purchases by six companies and the imports will help balance the system, managing this way the Drin cascade before the rain season.

The situation has changed, compared to last year. The drought of 2017 forced the OSHEE to buy 200 million EUR in the foreign market, to cover the country’s needs.

But the situation was different this year. Albania earned 42 million EUR from the electricity export for the first four months of the year.

After the deep crisis of the last year, the energy sector is experiencing a positive moment. INSTAT reports that during the first trimester Albania produced twice more energy compared to the same period of the last year.
