The employment of disabled people remains a challenge for the Albanian
government. The public administration has hired only 0.15% from this
category, while the law says that 1 in 25-30 people should be from this
category.
“Employment is one of the biggest challenges for us. The goal for the disabled people is their involvement. We need more work to reach this goal”, declared Sinan Tafaj, President of the Council of Disabled People.
The Head of the European Council in Albania, Marco Leideker, declared that there are two obligatory legal instruments for which Albania has signed for taking of anti-discriminatory measures, such as the European Convention for Human Rights and the Social Card, which have not been used. “When your rights are violated, you can address to the Court of Strasbourg”, Leideker declared.
The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Bardhylka Kospiri, declared that the government has undertaken important steps through subventioning companies that employ disabled people.
“We are working for these people and we are taking positive measures. If the state subventions employment for normal people, for the disabled, the government covers salaries for the first six months, from 100,000 to 200,000 ALL”, Kospiri declared.
The Academy of Political studies organized a round table for reinforcing the employment of the disabled in full accordance with the European Standards.
