The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama,  together with Erjon Veliaj,
Minister for Social Welfare and Youth, presented in Albania the pilot
project of the World Bank for the electronic welfare system.

Minister Erion Veliaj declared that through the modernization, the government aims to reduce abuses with the social scheme and cut the application time.

“We are using a digital system that is connected to all other databases of the Albanian government, which means with the property registration, the business registration, the land registration, the pension registration, social insurance and employment registration offices. This means that we will make a good trageting and within one year we will reduce abusers by 15-20%”, the Minister declared.

Veliaj added that they are reporting all cases of fictive increase of the social assistance.

Rama considered this project a work that will overthrow a system that opened a wound in the payment of individuals in need.

“This is a concerning situation, because corruption has affected the weakest. And if the first people in need today are the disabled, this comes because the system was built in such a way that played each day with their fate, just to take their vote and also their money, by including in this scheme people who were not disabled at all. I am aware that the disabled are waiting for their payments and we will do everything possible to realize this”, Rama declared.

Next year, the government aims to expand this project throughout the country.
