The political table of the Electoral Reform, failed today due to the lack of representatives of the non-parliamentary opposition.
The two co-chairs of the electoral reform commission were confronted with empty seats of colleagues of PD, LSI, who boycotted the meeting in protest against the demolition of the National Theater.
The boycott seems a temporary measure by the extra-parliamentary opposition, with sources from the two largest opposition parties confirming that it is only in force today.
Today’s meeting was expected to provide solutions to many agreed-upon points and will also discuss the Council of Europe’s recommendations for political parties funding. Consensus seems distant on points such as the depolitization of the administration, the vetting of college members and the change of the electoral system.
