The Electoral College suspended the case of former MP, Dashamir Tahiri,
declaring they were not competent for this specific case, and sent it to
the First Instance of the Tirana Administrative Court, setting this way
a precedent for any other similar complaint.
The Electoral College was put in Motion after MP Dashamir Tahiri filed a complaint against the Central Election Commission decision, which removed him from the Albanian Parliament.
Tahiri’s a complaint against the CEC decision was based on the argument that they didn’t tak this decision with qualified majority.
Present in the room were representatives from the CEC and Prosecution General. The CEC representative defended their decision and said that it is not a competence of the Electoral College to decide on that matter, and that a qualified majority is not needed for CEC in this case.
The Prosecution tried to stay more neutral, stating they have no interest to get involved with any of the parties.
Dashamir Tahiri’s parliamentary mandate was removed after the CEC verified he had not declared a conviction from an Italian court, for forged driving license. Tahiri said he himself wasn’t aware of this conviction, and insists that the nature of this infringement is not valid for the decriminalization law.
