A new hospital building was added to the city of Elbasan a few months
ago, all modern and only for the maternity and surgery service. But the
situation of the waste materials remains the same.
Top Channel discovered that the hospital remains are still being dumped without any sense of responsibility in the bins outside the hospital. Although there is a special law for treating the hospital remains, images show that there you can still find syringes and everything that can be considered a hospital waste material, and very dangerous.
When contacted by Top Channel, the newly appointed director of the Elbasan Hospital, Mrs.Desantila Tahiraj, declared that she gathered the responsible staff and said that there will be zero tolerance for those who violate the rules.
Even more dangerous is the situation at the former surgery. This building, now destroyed, has turned into a shelter for those who use narcotics. The syringes thrown around can be a danger for the life of the patients in the neighboring hospitals and the areas around. If this wasn’t enough, the former surgery has now turned into a public toilet.
Since the day when it was emptied, more than 10 years ago, this building has collected waste materials and no one has thought for once to clean it. This building remains close to the maternity and the pediatric hospital, remaining a constant danger for the children’s health.
