The new tax package in the economy spurred harsh debates in the Albanian
Parliament about its effect in the economy. The majority says that they
are reducing taxes for most of the citizens, but not in the
opposition’s book.
“For 177.000 teachers, educators, doctors, police officers and military, we are reducing taxes today”, declared the majority Parliament Member, Erjon Brace.
“Profits are not only ridiculous, but they are completely removed by the increased taxes. Fuel will be more expensive, transportation also”, replied the former Minister of Finances, Ridvan Bode.
There have been strong debates about the business tax, with the majority establishing a system with two grades, from which profit 80% of the businessmen.
“We are removing the small business tax. We are reducing the tax on small business. 81% of the Albanian businesses profit from this”, Brace declared.
“This progressive system only damages the interests of those who manage the country’s economy. This is injustice and the new war of classes. The biggest are those who profit, and the rest are the poor, who are receiving mercy”, declared the Republican Party leader, Fatmir Mediu.
The fiscal package brings strong changes in the tax system. In total, it increases the tax burden in the economy with 20 billion ALL.
