Edward Lear’s collection for Albania

A rare collection of sketches made in the 1800s by the British painter,
Edward Lear, is presented to the Albanian public by bringing the first
images of Tirana, Kavaja, Elbasan and other Albanian cities along the
“Via Egnatia” itinerary, which Lear crossed several times.

“It could turn into a very important cultural-historic itinerary, bringing more tourism in areas not visited by tourists today, such as Librazhd mountains. No one goes there now, but it could be visited more often through the ‘Via Egnatia’. Spain has 3 million visitors today only from the cultural-historic itineraries, which have improved local economy in abandoned areas”, said Auron Tare.

Artan Lame says Albanians would have not been able to know an important part of their country without Lear’s work, that’s why it should be respected through this publishing.

“It is a duty for us to publish two or three editions of Lear’s heritage for Albania. Let’s give it this minimum respect it deserves. This collection of his work for Albania is for all generations to come”, Artan Lame said.
