The Economic Forum of Vienna works started this Thursday in Tirana, with
the participation of the Western Balkan country leaders.
Present in this meeting was the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama; the Serbian Prime Minister, Alexandar Vucic; the Macedonian Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski; the Kosovo Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa.
Although the Serbian media said that Vucic might boycott the forum due to the presence of Mustafa, Vucic was present and shook hands with Mustafa.
The Prime Minister of Albania declared that this meeting is a unique opportunity fo the Balkan countries to unify their efforts in the EU integration, as their joint objective.
“Integration is seen as a unique chance for the future. This means that we don’t have time to look back. We should see forward to the future, to answer to our joint challenges. We cannot walk alone. We can only walk together, because no one is invulnerable. We should encourage the awareness of what we are, of what we can offer, and of what we can benefit. Cooperation for the economic and political challenges is essential, when our common purpose is Europe”, Rama declared.
He valued that the realization of the regional projects will bring our people together. For Rama, the Vienna summit is a chance to push forward the engagements we took together.
On the same lines, the Serbian Prime Minister, Alexandar Vucic, valued the discussions held with the Albanian counterpart about the mutual terms, considering the exchange of thoughts as very positive.
“We agreed on two important issues, which are joint objectives for everyone who wants the EU path and the EU membership”, Vucic declared.
He underlined that the countries of the region are tired with the EU stance on integration, hence, he proposed reinforcing cooperation with concrete projects, in order to accelerate the process.
“We should take care of ourselves. We have a 20 million citizen market. We mst contact with the EU and give our maximum for realizing these projects. I proposed to Edi some mutual projects. Let’s propose them to Brussels and if there will be no support, Serbia is ready to pay it with our money. We must tie the region and the people with better markets. We can overcome other markets and offer our products together”, Vucic declared.
“We are ready to cooperate. We do not encourage stability, and the stability that we had in the past years must continue. We must not make reforms without a regional cooperation”, he added.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, expressed his readiness for including his country in regional projects, and for the solution of neighboring problems through dialogue.
“We are ready to cooperate to build stability in the region, to create better living conditions for our people. We have our challenges, which are related to the economic process, the missing infrastructure. We also need more support from the international financial institutions, since we have entered later in the transition period. Besides cooperation for the infrastructure, there is room for commercial cooperation in tourism etcetera. We have the opportunity to work in developing the regional market. Kosovo is open for every country and certainly, we are ready to resolve the problems with Serbia through dialogue, for the interest of peace and stability”, Mustafa declared.
The Macedonian Prime Minister mentioned the recent tragic events in his country and valued that security is an issue that requires priority.
He said that without the contradictions in Balkan, Macedonia would not only have been a NATO country, but would have started the EU negotiations, and also the events in Kumanovo would have had another orientation.
“However, we are working with the reforms and it is positive that the other countries of the region are doing the same thing”, Gruevski declared.
