Recent official data show that the third trimester of 2013 might have
plunged the economy in a negative area, for the third time since the
beginning of the crisis.
The institution of statistics reported that all main economy sectors have marked a strong plunge of production during this trimester.
According to the Albanian Institution of Statistics, the strongest plunge was seen in industry and construction, with the economic turnover fell with 10.8% and 11.3% compared to one year ago.
Tourism also drops in this season, and it not only affects the economic growth for this period, but also defines the growth of other branches that are directly related to it, such as agriculture and services.
According to the Institution of Statistics, incomes from hotels shrank with 4.5%, increasing the level of pessimism. Short-term statistics cover six sectors that make the majority of the Albanian economy, such as industry, construction, hotels, transport and communication.
In total, the drop for this trimester is 4.9% compared to one year ago. Sectors that have not been affected are agriculture and some services such as education and health, but there are few chances for them to overthrow the negative trend.
For the first six months of 2013, the National Gross Domestic Product increased with 1.44% on an annual basis.
The Institution of Statistics is expected to publish the official indicator for the third trimester. If the figure will be negative, chances are that the economic growth for 2013 will be in the lowest level of the past two decades, besides 1997.
