It is the first time that businesses in Albania list taxes as the
biggest problem to make business. The last report of global competition
lists corruption and fund access as the biggest barriers for businesses
after taxes.

Ilir Ciko, professor of Competition in university, says that it is the first time that corruption comes third, and this is a problem that needs to be addressed to.

The report of global competition is considered as one of the more complete indicators on the situation of a company, integrating more than 140 indexes, from the macro-economic environment to the infrastructure development and social-human indicators. This year the report lists Albania 93rd among 140 countries, with an improvement of 4 places, compared to the past year.

Ciko says the change is positive, although it is very small. However, Albania remains with the lowest competition in the region and this affects the citizens’ lives directly, as it is related to the revenues per capita and productivity.

The global competition index is published by the World Economic Froum. The data show that there is a direct connection between this index and the welfare level. The more competitive an economy, the higher are average revenues for citizens.
