The European Commission announced of giving 118.000 EUR for 8000
Albanians who live in the looded area. They offered food packages,
covers and health care information, in order to avoid epidemics,
especially after the water draws back.

The money comes from the Emergency Fund for Disasters at the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent. The donations will be passed through the Albanian Red Cross. Tirana applied for this help while Skopje avoided it, according to the Spokesperson of the Commission, Catherine Ray, when asked why the same donations are not going to Macedonia.

“We announced these donations for Albania. Macedonai has not requested any so far. They have not applied. Certainly that we will monitor the situation and will react if needed”, declared Catherine Ray, Spokesperson of the European Council.

The donations are coming from the member countries of an EU mechanism for civilian protection. According to the Commission, Austria, Croatia, Slovaka and Montenegro have sent beds, blankets, tents, kitchenware, generators, rain boots and coats. Another team was sent from Brussels to Tirana to coordinate the donations.

“This is the European Solidarity in practice, says the Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Response to Crises, Stylianides.

The European Commission contributes every year for the Emergency Fund for Disasters at the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. Based on the agreement of 2014, this fund mounts up to 3 million EUR.
