The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development reduced the
evaluation for the economic growth of Albania for this year, from 2.5%
to 2.3%.

The recent report says that the Albanian economy had a stable growth during this year, resisting successfully to the southern floods during the first trimester. However, they note that the Albanian government is fighting to reach the objectives established with the IMF agreement. EBRD underlines that the government has escalated its efforts to reduce informality in economy, which, according to her, should give a mid-term result.

Although they foresee a lower economic growth for this year, EBRD ahs improved the prediction for the next year, raising them from 3% to 3.3%. According to them, the reason for this optimism is related to the expected improvements of the situation in the Eurozone, the construction of the TAP pipeline, a major project that will inject 1 billion USD of investments in Albania.

On the other hand, EBRD warns that the economy might have problems with the return of the asylum seekers. According to them, more than 20% of the asylum seekers in Germany were from Albania and Kosovo. After these countries will be declared as safe countries of origin, most of the immigrants will return, which might create problems with the economy.
