Two new earthquakes have hit the Cerrik and Belsh areas this Tuesday
morning. A 4.5 Richter scale magnitude earthquake caused other damages
one day ago, with citizens rushing on the streets in panic.
“The apartment building is old and the walls have cracks on them. We are scared to stay home”, a woman says.
Fear from earthquakes has increased the insecurity of the families which are now looking for help.
“We cannot live inside anymore. Everyone is on the street. We want help from the government”,one resident says.
The Mayor of Cerrik, Sercet Duzha, gathered the emergency headquarters to verify other damage.
He appealed for an intervention, since three apartment buildings are inhabitable, and 66 families are staying on the street. According to Duzha, the only intervention that the Municipality can make with its capacities, is finding a temporary shelter in schools and dormitories.
Some of the families that didn’t have relatives stayed in the high-school dormitory. They have only their clothes on, while their houses are on the brink of destruction.
The earthquakes have caused damages in Belsh, where two 9 schools have been damaged, and two houses have become inhabitable. The seismic shakes were felt in Elbasan, without causing damage.
