The declaration of the Albanian Prime Minister and Parliament Speaker regarding the Dutch officials who visited Albania on a fact-collecting mission have echoed in Dutch media.
De Telegraaf says that the visit of the Dutch officials was not appreciated: “The politicians from Hague wanted to see with their own eyes if the Western Balkan country was ready to join the EU”, Dutch media said.
The first one who reacted was Prime Minister Rama: “It’s comic when these delegations come to collect facts and all they do is visit here for half a day, they meet me and my dear friend of the opposition, with whom there is one thing that unites us, the love for the Netherlands. What facts can they collect in half a day when the European Commission has an army of experts who eat facts, drink facts and hear facts”, the Prime Minister declared.
Speaker Ruci was on the same line: “If cannabis is a dark stain in Albania, we must know that the cannabis seed comes from the Netherlands, the technology comes from the Netherlands, and the market also comes from the Netherlands. I don’t accuse the Netherlands. I expect them to evaluate our efforts”, Ruci said.
The Speaker also sent a message to Europe on its birthday, referring to the fear of some European countries about the Albanian criminality.
“They can call me a nostalgic if they want, but before 1990, Albania had no drugs, no prostitution and no corruption. Hence, it was not Albanians who took these things to Europe. They found them among Europeans”, he added.
The leader of the Dutch delegation in Albania, Malik Azmani, said that the visit was very useful: “We are aware that we touched a sensible cord in Albania with our question”, and then he lists concerns: “The Prosecutor who was investigating a former Minister was replaced. The brother of a minister, who was sentenced in Italy for drug traffic, has not been extradited, according to local media. The Dutch government has said even before that Albania is not ready to open the accession negotiations”, says De Telegraaf.
