This year, the coastal city of Durrës marked reportedly the best tourist season in its history.
With over 11,500 officially registered beds, Durrës remains the main center of Albanian tourism due to its long coastline or numerous accommodation units that offer a variety of prices.
“The 2023 summer tourist season is considered one of the most successful in terms revenue in the history of tourism in Durres”, says the tourism specialist in the Durres Prefecture, Oltsen Gripshi.
“Certainly, the tax varies from the front line near the coast to the inner territory of the district, which varies from 350 lek per room in the front area and up to 140 lek, in the inner part of the territory”, says Gripshi.
“It’s a beautiful place with nice people and the weathwer it’s still hot. I’m from the Netherlands. Years ago, you couldn’t think of coming to Albania because of the communist regime. A totally closed place. Therefore it remains attractive. In some of the buildings, you can still find evidence of time, but they need to be better managed and preserved”, said an interviewed Dutch tourist.
Tourists from all over the world visited and continue to come on the Albanian shores of the Adriatic Sea from Durrës and further on in the northwest.
